Six Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) supporters were charged at the Ipoh Magistrate Court on March 2, for participating in an illegal procession.
Ramesh Periasamy, 40, of Taman Sri Desa, Vijayalingam Jagadeesan, 50, of Taman Tasek Damai, Jayakumar Subramanian, 48, of Jalan Tembok, Mogan Rengsamy, 43, of Medan Lahat, Subramayam Nagooran@Pandyan, 43, of Taman Muhibbah, Sitiawan and Sivagumar R. Supiah, 37, of Taman Kamunting Jaya, Taiping, were jointly charged under Section 43 of the Societies Act 1966 for being involved in an illegal procession at the Jelapang Road on Sunday, February 13 between 9.30 a.m. to 11.03 a.m. They were part of a nation-wide protest initiated by Hindraf against the use of the novel “Interlock” in secondary schools.
On conviction the accused can be imprisoned for not more than three years or a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or both. The six were released on a RM2,000 bail each.
DPP Ariff Firman Muhammad Sidek led the prosecution team while the accused were being represented by Augustine Anthony and Amani Williams-Hunt (Bah Tony).
Nurul Fareha Zainal Abidin was the presiding magistrate.Hearing is fixed on Monday, April 4 at the same court.
