E-mail Print PDF

BY CHAN KOK SUN , The President

I am quite certain that many Ipoh folks especially have yet to come across this so-called Ipoh City Watch (ICW). I would like to take this opportunity to formally introduce this organization to all of you.

What is Ipoh City Watch?

Ipoh  City   Watch  is a   non-political, independent   public  interest   organization   representing the diverse views and aspirations of the residents of Chan Kok Sun, ICW PresidentIPOH.

  • It is an inclusive organization where the legitimate interest of all sectors of community are represented.
  • It pursues its objectives without fear or favour.
  • It pursues its objectives by erecting a durable form of citizen-municipal interaction.
  • It operates with the same degree of transparency, accountability and openness that it expects of others. Ipoh City Watch is committed to ensuring that Ipoh’s economic developments do not compromise its environment nor its cultural heritage.

What Else Does It Do?

  • Ipoh City Watch plays the role of an independent and non-political conduit for the residents of Ipoh to voice their concerns in matters pertaining to Ipoh.
  • It liaises with other NGOs, Government Agencies/Departments and works with the relevant Authorities for the betterment of Ipoh.
  • Most importantly, we regard ourselves as Friends of Ipoh!

What are Its Aims?

  • To obtain and circulate information regarding matters that affect Ipoh and its residents.
  • To inform and educate Ipoh residents regarding their rights, obligations and duties.
  • To encourage residents’ participation in the development of Ipoh.
  • To empower and support groups / individuals in the pursuit of legitimate and legal issues affecting them.

The present Committee of 2007/2008 has deliberated on the direction and the roles of ICW with decision to formulate a Vision & Mission Statement for our direction as follows:

Vision :

To establish a group of concerned residents of Ipoh to act collectively and responsibly in propagating / advocating the quality of living and value for money activities to be enjoyed by all residents.

Mission :

ii)       To establish a concerted platform with a strong and collective voice for all Ipoh folks, as an intermediary to assist the local authority to promote community development , sustainable growth , prosperity and  enhanced quality of life for all Ipoh residents.

ii)       To support the state government in their stated aims of making the local council an accountable , transparent and efficient administration by working together with the objective of making Ipoh Town a clean & caring city.

Come And Support Us

As in other NGOs, all of us are volunteers who make an effort to spare some of our precious time and energy in trying to unite our voices in furthering the ICW’s objectives. We need greater support from all of you by joining this organization as members.  Let us be one voice and one body to champion our rights in this city in particular and in the state of Perak in general.

The RM30 annual membership subscription will also enable you to have the 24/7 access to the e-newspaper, MALAYSIAKINI.

I always like to remind me with this quotation :

“To do the useful thing, to say the courageous thing, to contemplate the beautiful thing: that is enough for one man’s life.”

-- T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American Poet

In short, we can make a difference for the welfare and interest of the Ipoh folks if we choose to do the useful thing.
