The environment suffers in Cameron Highlands and along with it the people suffer too.
The deteriorating condition of the environment is causing anger amongst the Cameron Highlands people.
The most vulnerable community in this worsening condition is none other then the Orang Asli who once roamed freely in these areas. Often, displaced due to rapid developmental phase, the Orang Asli find it hard to manage their day to day affairs in this fast changing environmental landscape.
Kampung Sungai Tiang in Bertam Valley is situated very close to the busy road that is now undergoing major upgrading work. This upgrading work a contributor, not only to the deteriorating air quality in this area but also the pollution to the stream that runs along the road.Children oblivious to the dangers posed by heavy traffic are seen running from one side of the road to the other side of the road.
Not only this village is situated in an undesirable location but the expected heavy traffic after the completion of the highway would certainly cause hardship to the Semai community who are already facing poor quality of life here.
